Surge’s Canoe Thwart comes in two sizes to fit different locations but can also be cut to length. Thwarts are used to add rigidity or provide a leaning rail (when paddling on your knees). Also used to replace an old or damaged thwart.
Canoe Thwarts give rigidity to the canoe as well as provide a canoeist who is kneeling in the boat something to lean against This thwart will fit a variety of canoes including the Surge Yukon and Mad River Explorer and Journey series. Measure your required width prior to ordering to ensure it will fit.
Yokes also availble- these are similar but have a cut out for shoulder carrying your canoe when portaging. Some may find a thwart more comfortable than a yoke (i.e. as a backrest, or bottom support when in the canoe, Generally yokes are nicer to carry on your shoulders but you may never do this, especially if you have a centre seat.

Note when cutting to length to fit a narrower canoe please trim a evenly from both ends, don’t trim all off one side.
NB – a light sand and re varnish is recommended (or oil)
