This Yakima Hood Anchor creates a secure attachment point at your hatch, rear door or bonnet for bow and stern tie downs of longer kayaks (or not so long).
Designed to easily sit in the bonnet of your car it shortens the length of the tie down required to secure your kayaks nose or tail as well as improving the location of the tie in point so it’s easier to reach and the strap or cord doesn’t obstruct your vision or rub on your “duco”
Roof rack suppliers (and many kayak manufacturers) recommend using a bow and stern tie down for all kayaks, its a lot more likely that you’ll do it if you have a convenient tie down point that reduces the hassle.
Generally there are few reasons to tie the front and rear of your kayak down the most commonly cited reason are to prevent the boat from lifting up due to the wind. They will also stop the kayak from flying off the vehicle in the case of an accident.
but another reason is to avoid the “rocking”. Rocking can cause damage to the vehicle, kayak, and roof racks. This is especially the case on long high speed trips or bumpy terrain (like speed bumps or dirt tracks)
