This Surge Rod Holder comes with 4 button head hex drive stainless steel screws as well as an allen key for the screws. This enables the holder to be quickly and easily mounted to any kayaks with the appropriate inset mounting threads without any extra tools (examples of kayaks that have these insets include the Surge Cruiser, Bass 9, Cosmos, Tern, Ibis, Swan. Many other kayaks will also have these insets)
There is a flip up section that the butt fits into (see pictures). This makes it easier to lift the rod out of the holder from behind by allowing it to swivel up prior to pulling it out of the butt section, whilst also holding it securely when in use.
Rod Holder is easily taken off the ball base plate without the use of tools by turning the key that locks the rod holder angle etc. This leaves only the lower profile, durable ball permanently mounted on the kayak- Usually done for transport it is also useful if the kayak is used for purposes other than fishing. The base plate can also be removed easily but requires use of the allen key.
The Surge Ball Jointed rod holder can be fitted to kayaks without these insets easily enough but will likely require other fastening and perhaps some tools.
If used on a rail system will need rail adaptors if mounted through a deck it will require either nut, bolt and washers or star rivets.
We recommend use of a rod leash whenever you are out on a kayak with your fishing rod with all rod holders to add extra security.
