Immersion Research Royale Spray Deck Skirt

Immersion Research’s Royal Spray Deck is a  rugged, implosion-resistant skirt made for hardcore paddlers who can’t afford to have a skirt fail in extreme paddling conditions and value security in all situations.

A ruggedized version of Immersion Research’s popular Lucky Charm Rand Spray Skirt, the Royale Rand Spray Skirt is IR’s most durable and implosion resistant spray skirt. A 3mm neoprene tunnel is mated to an abrasion-resistant 4mm Supratex II deck while the Schoeller™ Keprotec^®with Kevlar® reinforced front casing provides extra protection around the cockpit rim with DuPont™ Kevlar® aramid fibres. IR’s tri-fin rand rubber rand profile provides a tenacious grip to prevent implosion while maintaining a dry seal. The unique rand compound we use enhances stretchability in cold conditions. A neoprene apron extends past the rand to aid in providing a dry seal. Super sticky silicone grip strips on the underside of the deck keep the skirt securely in place, even in the most challenging whitewater. Their grippy, corrugated, high-vis Eagle Talon grab handle holds its shape and prevents your hand from slipping off the end making it easy to find and pull in disorienting situations.

Product Care

•Hang to dry and avoid prolonged periods of direct sunlight if possible.

•Only store your skirt for extended periods when it is 100% dry.

•If used in saltwater, rinse with fresh water immediately after use.

Sizing

Use your normal pants waist size as a reference point. If you don’t know your normal size, use a soft measuring tape to measure your waist. Take this number and subtract 2″ then boom, you have your recommended tunnel size.

What is a Rand.

A rand on a spray skirt  is another way to make the seal and is a ring of extruded rubber glued on to the edge of the skirt. Rands tend to have a lot less stretch than bungees. Although is Immersion Research’s rand compound is formulated to maintain stretch as much as possible in cold weather, they can still require some pre-stretching on freezing days to ease them before use. Rand skirts seal around a rim much like a Tupperware lid seal – its more of a mechanical lip-locking seal than a bungee seal. As a result, rand skirts are very resistant to implosion/explosion. This makes them an excellent choice for people who primarily paddle in large surf, big water class V, run 30ft+ waterfalls regularly, or for boats with rims that are prone to implosion.
