Wilderness Systems Round Orbix Hatch 8″ – Post-2014 models

Replacement round Orbix hatch for Wilderness Systems kayaks from 2015 to current. Comes with improved rubber deck to kayak interface, lid gaskets. A bucket option is available. Hatch cover closes with a lockable latch and seals water tight. Outside diameter is approximately 9 7/16 inches. The working opening (LID) is approximately 7 1/4 inches. Deck cut-out approximately 8 1/4 inches. Eight screw holes, approximately 9 inches from centre to centre of opposite holes.

This model has an interlock groove and channel which is secured with a cam lever giving an excellent seal. It is possible to fit a locking pin or small lock to the cam lever to prevent accidental opening. An integrated thick gasket enables it to fit to decks without leaking

This differs from the previous model in size and fit but also in the method of sealing. The sizing of the previous model (fitted prior to kayaks prior to 2015) is different enough to make either model unsuitable for replacing the other.

Should you not know the model you have the best way to tell the difference is with the lid closed. In the Pre 2015 model the screw holes in the rim to the kayak deck are visible with the hatch closed, this model they are not (see images for current model). The Pre 2015 also has a foam gasket seal to ensure the hatch is watertight rather than the large groove visible in this model.
